FABRICATION OF TEN (10) IMPROVED FOOD KIOSKS THROUGH MOCK-UP DEVELOPMENT

1. Background
Urban food vending plays a critical role in ensuring access to affordable meals, particularly for low-income communities in Tanga City. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor hygiene, and lack of standardized vending facilities increase food safety risks and undermine the dignity of food vendors.

To address these challenges, Rikolto and partners are supporting the design and fabrication of improved food kiosks. Building on previous mock-up and prototype efforts, this assignment focuses on refining the design and fabricating ten (10) improved kiosks that are durable, hygienic, environmentally friendly, and user-friendly for urban food vendors.

2. Objective of the Assignment
The overall objective is to develop an improved mock-up design and fabricate ten (10) fully functional food kiosks for piloting in Tanga City.

Specific objectives are:

• To refine and finalize an improved mock-up design that meets user, hygiene, and operational requirements.
• To fabricate and assemble ten (10) kiosks based on the approved mock-up.
• To ensure the kiosks meet food safety, mobility, inclusivity, and sustainability standards.

3. Scope of Work
The consultant/firm will be responsible for:

1. Mock-Up Refinement

• Review the existing prototype and feedback from vendors and stakeholders.
• Develop an improved mock-up design incorporating enhanced features for hygiene, safety, durability, and functionality.
• Present the mock-up for validation by stakeholders before fabrication.

2. Fabrication of Kiosks

• Fabricate and assemble ten (10) kiosks based on the validated mock-up design.
• Ensure durability of materials and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Apply user-centered features such as ease of cleaning, ventilation, storage, and mobility.

3. Delivery and Orientation

• Deliver the ten kiosks to designated locations in Tanga.
• Provide a basic user manual and orientation to vendors on operation, cleaning, and maintenance.

4. Deliverables

• One approved improved mock-up design (sketches, specifications, and bill of materials).
• Ten (10) fully fabricated and assembled kiosks, ready for piloting.
• A documentation package including technical drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and a simple user guide.

5. Duration and Timeline
The assignment will be completed within 4 weeks as follows:

• Week 1: Review and improve mock-up design, stakeholder validation.
• Weeks 2–4: Fabrication, assembly, delivery, and orientation.

6. Budget
The estimated budget will cover:

• Materials and labor for fabrication of ten kiosks.
• Delivery and vendor orientation
