Research Assistant to contribute to an action-oriented research initiative on School Food 4 Cities

Rikolto is looking for a committed Research Assistant to contribute to an action-oriented research initiative, aimed at filling critical knowledge gaps, specifically in Mbale, by investigating the roles and challenges facing local government in promoting healthy and sustainable school meals, while piloting policy [or practice] experiments that aim to improve local governance of food systems.
The research assistant will work on analysing the role of local governments in designing, implementing, and scaling innovative, inclusive, and sustainable local school food programmes; developing and rolling out pilots; providing empirical data to influence broader policy changes and inform roadmaps for replication at national and regional level; and enhance awareness and capacity of local governments and other urban stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Food Science, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Economics or related field; extensive research expertise; 2–5 years’ experience working with international organisations and donors; experience in training/capacity development for policy and behavioural change; strong analytical, report-writing, presentation and interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience in action research.
Duration & remuneration
One-year service contract, up to 1,200,000 UGX, based on Rikolto’s local labour conditions. Contract renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. The position is based in Mbale City and reports to the AfriFoodLinks/SF4C Coordinator.
