VIJANA KILIMO BIASHARA (VKB) PROJECT
Terms of Reference (ToR) for Coaching and Mentorship of Youth-Led SMEs in Agribusiness
Rikolto Tanzania is part of Rikolto International, a Belgian NGO dedicated to transforming food chains to ensure food is produced sustainably while respecting people and the planet. For over 40 years, we have worked in Tanzania to promote sustainable and inclusive food systems and are part of a global network operating in 18 countries worldwide.
Rikolto is currently implementing two projects funded by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Mastercard Foundation: Vijana Kilimo Biashara (VKB) and the Joint Programme on Accelerating Progress Towards Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP-RWEE). These projects focus on strengthening food systems to empower smallholder farmers and youth involved in the sunflower, sorghum, and horticulture value chains in the Dodoma and Singida regions. Both initiatives contribute to the government's efforts to transform the rural economy through sustainable farming practices.
As part of Rikolto’s efforts to implement project activities, the Generation Food Accelerators (GFA) approach engages young entrepreneurs (aged 18-35) from rural and urban areas in agriculture. The GFA focuses on agribusiness activities, including production, mechanization, agro-processing, agro-input supplies, agribusiness advisory services, financial linkages, and market aggregation. The approach aims to connect promising youth-led agribusinesses to financial markets and equip them with the professionalism needed to attract investment and scale their operations.
Through this initiative, 100 young entrepreneurs from Dodoma and Singida have been identified and equipped with technical capacity building under a boot camp training program. Out of these, 50 youth-led business enterprises (25 from each region) will undergo intensive business development support through a structured coaching and mentorshipapproach over one month.
A mentor in this project is an individual engaged by Rikolto and its consortium to support project beneficiaries in effectively establishing, formalizing, and managing youth-led micro-enterprises. The mentor will provide technical, financial, and managerial guidance to help businesses acquire financing, manage loans, gain market exposure, and establish linkages to accelerate profitability and business growth.
